The clutch on your Porsche provides the mechanical interface between your Porsche engine and the transmission and gearbox. The clutch allows the rotating motion of the engine to be connected to the gearbox. This makes the car move or “drive” forwards or backwards at different rates depending upon which gear is selected. By operating a varying level of pressure to the clutch friction plate, through clutch pedal movement, varying amounts of rotational motion from the engine (or power) can be applied gradually to the gearbox allowing your Porsche to pull away smoothly when stationary.
The clutch relies wholly on friction to operate and it is perfectly normal for your clutch friction plate to wear and become worn. Over time the clutch will start to slip and you will loose drive from the engine. When this happens, the clutch will need to be replaced. Once your Porsche clutch has begun to slip, it will only get worse.
When changing your Porsche clutch we always recommend that the clutch friction plate, pressure plate and release bearing are all changed at the same time. For this reason we supply all three items (clutch pressure plate, friction plate & release bearing) as a kit for your Porsche. Clutch kits are not interchangeable and you must select the correct kit for your Porsche.
